Questions a model can help examine

  • How much cash could expansion or additional working capital require?
  • What happens if revenue grows more slowly, margins change or customers pay later?
  • How do capital expenditure and debt repayments affect the funding requirement?
  • Which assumptions have the greatest effect on the plan?

What the work can include

Business drivers and assumptions

Connect the forecast to relevant operating drivers, such as sales volumes, pricing, margins, collection timing and planned investment. Separate historical information from assumptions that management needs to assess.

Integrated forecasts and funding needs

Build financial forecasts that connect performance with the cash implications of the plan. Where included in scope, examine working capital, capital expenditure, debt obligations and the timing of financing needs.

Scenario analysis

Test alternative assumptions and compare their financial impact. Use the results to frame trade-offs and identify the conditions that would require management to change course.

Deliverables follow the decision

The agreed scope may include a financial model, cash forecast, scenario analysis and a summary of key assumptions and findings. We confirm the forecast period, information requirements, deliverables, responsibilities, timing and fees in the proposal.

A forecast depends on the quality of its inputs and assumptions. If the underlying records need correction, we identify the gaps and agree the work required with management and the accounting provider.

Questions before a conversation

Can we start with an existing Excel model?

Yes. We can discuss the existing model, the decision it needs to support and whether development or revision is appropriate. Any review responsibilities and limitations are agreed in scope.

Will the model guarantee a funding outcome?

No. A model helps explain assumptions and financing needs. Investors and lenders assess the wider business and make their own decisions.
